This wind-up toy was made in Japan in the 1950s by "Alps" of Japan. Wind him up and his tail spins, he vibrates and moves around the table (if the surface is smooth) and he "pours" ketsup on his hamburger and then raises it to his mouth to eat it! A fun old toy from a very different era!

www.opamerica.com Considered to be one of the "holy grails" of robot collecting, this is the ultra-scarce Modern Toys tin Giant Sonic Robot (aka "Train" robot), manufactured in Japan in the late 1950s and very early 1960s. It is believed to be the last member of the so-called "Gang of Five," a set of skirted battery-op robots that included Sonic, along with Radicon, Target, Non-Stop and Machine Man. These robots command the top spots in the pantheon of robot collecting, and prices as high as $42500 have been paid for them individually at auction in recent years. The robot stands an impressive 15 inches high, and is complete and all-original. There are a few light scratches and shallow dings -- nothing notable -- as well as a slightly pushed-in head, which can be pushed out easily. None of the dings have crimped or permanently damaged the surface. The battery compartment is clean and corrosion-free. The colors are vibrant! Best of all, it runs! I tested with 3 size D batteries and the toy lit up, moved in a "mystery action" fashion, and had a loud train whistle. Two sets in one. Solid color set consists of 22 hollow blocks made of high impact styrene plastic. Each block contains a small object within that causes the block to rattle when moved. The flat surfaces have alphabet letters, numbers or basic animal images silk screened in a contrasting color. The other set's 7 blocks are each half opaque color, half clear plastic. Through the "window' you see an animal statue. These blocks also have rattles inside. Good clean vintage toys from the 1950's.

My visit to Beaulieu Autojumble on Saturday 16th May 2009. Rain held off for most of the day. Lots of goodies for all types of car mad folks. I was looking for Lambrettas. Was only one there and the bloke wants five times it's value, so 'no thanks'. Some nice motorcycles though. A nice Cresta too! Lots and lots and lots of lamps and spot lights but prices are getting high now. Some good vintage toys too, but once again prices are through the roof !!! Anyway the weather was fair, the company good (my brother and his wife came down from Reading) and I had a great time. Back in September for the Much bigger event !!! Hope you enjoy this vid.
