Need ideas on decorating new bedroom! (creative people please answer?)?

Okay, I am really not a very visually apt person but I really would like to make my new bedroom a little haven which expresses myself.

I'm a very writerly person; books and vintage and a magical atmosphere would be very important.

To give you an idea of the styles I like:

I need tips on:

-furniture (i mean things like cushions, stools...)
-creative ways of putting up fairy lights (i have no bedpost, so I need ideas!!)
-pretty ways of arranging frames/pictures on walls.

**I really like the idea of hanging floaty fabrics over windows and on walls, but have no practical sense - how could this be done? **

ANYTHING ELSE YOUR MIND CAN CONJURE.

Please, I will adore you till the ends on the earth if you answer.

Thank you in advance! :)

You can get plain second-hand furniture from charity shops. Paint them plain white and then have colourful cushions and accessories.

You can stick floaty fabric anywhere using velcro. Stick one side on the hem of the fabric and the other on the surface of the area you want it to stcik to. It’s easy and involves no screws. I’ve done this on a window frame.

You could get a basic wooden towel rail or clothes rail and paint it the colour of the wall, then screw it to the wall and drape fairy lights around it.

You can use a light gauge rope to rap the fairy lights around. Have it hang from the ceiling going from corner to corner of your room or bed. You can also use a large plant, real or faux in the room to put the lights in. I agree with painting old furniture, thrift stores have lots of individual pieces.

Purple, is a magical color. use it sparingly though and couple it with black, but not black walls; too much black will staunch creative flow. After watching Twilight and seeing Bella’s room I understand why my clients ask for strings of lights, it creates a pleasant atmosphere and does set the mood, I would suggest stringing some lights, the result is inspiring. Forget posters, you are far too focused for that. Literature should grace your walls on shelves made from old wood. Keep it low key, use a few accents here and there, but when it comes to expressing yourself use your writing!

Rope lighting is a great way to introduce a soft lighting effect to any room. Do a search for rope lighting pics for ideas on how to incorporate them into your space. Also, faux finishing on your walls can transform your room to whatever mood you are trying to convey. There are great examples on http://www.mooneyscontracting.webs.com in their photo gallery.

It would look magical to drape floaty fabric over your bed with the fairy lights shining through like your first pic.
Screw 4 eye screws into the ceiling evenly spaced above your bed.

Tie ribbon onto one eye hook to the other, making a square, then tie two pieces crosswise, making a X. Then drape a sheer curtain waverly over the ribbons, sort of like a floaty canopy and lay the fairy lights all across on top of the curtain.

adore me to the end of the earth? please… don’t get mushy with me…

I would look at a palette of heavenly colours. so things like bleach, vanilla, white (brilliant white is over doing it), very light blue.

Then you need to look at what sort of colours you want it to be complemented with. If you are going for the meadow type look, go with pastel greens, shades of reds, yellows, etc. make sure they are small items and do not take up huge spaces or stand out too much. e.g. flower patterned embroidery should have small flowers that doesn’t stand out too much e.g. http://weheartit.com/entry/1920611 is fine

avoid strong, brilliant colours like really strong reds or navy blue. You want the colours to blend and be very light. e.g. http://whi.s3.prod.lg1×8.simplecdn.net/images/1944908/0207Ifeellike2million_large.jpg?1271216771 is overkill on the disgusting green.

You also want to look at things like having paintings of heavenly images, meadows or pastel pictures with frames

I always prefer a white or bleached magnolia wall to keep things versatile and mix and match whatever you want

Furniture: really pale beach stuff. Avoid oak, hardwood, or anything with strong colour.

Put all these images on a board with the colour of the wall you want as the bacground; think of it like a photomontage but you want to see whether things go together or not and whether it all fits in your room.

http://diy.artgroup.com/products/robert-jones/sailing%2c-falmouth-ii.aspx?pid=13363

you want to place furniture in a way that does not get in other people’s way and it is functional. On the other hand, you don’t want things to be placed in a way that makes the room look like an office. Think of making the bed as centre of the room. either this means you place the bed literally in the middle of a wall or facing a window/side of a window, or both, you are making the bed the centre piece and everything else revolving around it. That would mean however you dress up the bed, will impact and determine how the rest of the room will feel like. Do not put the bed in the middle of a corner, unless you cannot help it.

place photos and paintings with a bit of margin to the sides and the idea is to draw attention of the eye away from the empty space so you don’t notice the wall around it.

creative ways of putting up fairy lights – place small hooks around the room to hold the lights up. The only problem with this is you will get loads of holes in your ceiling once the lights have been taken down. Alternatively, build yourself a frame, except you don’t use fickle sticks and branches you find in the middle of the woods. It’s like bringing rubbish into your room and then call it decor.
One idea is to place a hook on the wall directly above your headboard of your bed. Then put drapes of curtain linen or similar, but soft and light (in weight and colour) material down the sides of your bed. Of course, it would be an idea if you had a frame to nail these drapes to and make it actually look like the real thing, but we are talking about restrictions so we stick to

I like the look of ‘vintage’ maps on walls. What I do is cut out pages of an Atlas (from 1999 so not particularly vintage) and soak them in tea then leave them to dry overnight. Being the most non-aesthetic person ever puts me at somewhat of a low position to judge, but if you get rope -or just string- and attach it at the corner of a wall (one part on one wall the other on the other in the corner if you comprehend me) then you can hang things from it; things like leaves and printed out pictures in tea (obviously dried). And I recall a while ago telling you about one of these: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/26472200 which, when in darkness stars appear on the ceiling from the holes in the lantern. Also, they only cost £3.99 which makes them worshipped in the kirsten kingdom.
You went to Wordsworth’s house did not you ? Was it Dove Cottage or the townhouse? If it was Dove Cottage then you would’ve seen the room wallpapered with just newspaper, which I thought the most beautiful walls I’ve ever seen. If you could arrange them in some ‘artistic manner’ you could perhaps replicate that in a corner, having it creeping over from one wall onto another on the corner to give the effect of… but combine it with black from a magazine or something to create something different.

If you’d like I shall post you some maps to tea-coat, in return I shall force you (until death ensues) to provide me with succulent information on your holiday. Also converse with me before I have a breakdown, darling ;)

Furthermore, I have two books for you, but first you shall have to inform me how the hell you post packages. (of such high intelligence I am composed, you can tell.)
