Yeah, I remember my transformers being made of real metal, not all this cheap plastic like today.

The Megatron toy, which was a metal/hard plastic toy, would be fluorescent orange or something.

Who would of ever guessed that the toys I played with as a kid would kill me today!

lekocafe March 12, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Anyone else notice that in a lot of these ads the kids are actually playing outside without crash helmets or any other kind of protective grear? And no structured supervision? I loved being a kid then.

reanimate280 March 12, 2010 at 9:36 pm

will you go out with me?

SueSnell March 12, 2010 at 10:20 pm

That’s just what they tell you when you ask them out, genius.

reanimate280 March 12, 2010 at 10:33 pm

bucuz lois lane was a girl and girls are gay!

Dragonrider1227 March 12, 2010 at 11:09 pm

0:26 These toys are encouraging the kids to beat each other up. BAN THEM! BAN THEM! XD

SueSnell March 13, 2010 at 12:05 am

I had all of these except Jor-El. But MY Superman didn’t have “fly away action” that I can remember. gyped!

- and why didn’t they make Lois Lane? WTF?

swisstrekkie March 13, 2010 at 12:42 am

cool Trailer!

cmsahe March 13, 2010 at 1:29 am

Jor-El appears regularly in the comic books, in flashback stories.

Cripes, it sounds like the announcer just downed a few quaaludes.

ronniethecrazyone March 13, 2010 at 3:36 am

These were the toys and these were the days “But” MEGO could have improved a far as Superman is concerned. For the life of me i coul never understand why they made a 12 inch Lex Luther and not an 8 inch figure of him? “And” Why was Mr. Mylzpylk or what the hell ever in the lineup and not Lex? That made absolutely no sense!

firestorm63a:

Yeah, it IS a good likeness of Marlon Brando! The details are great!

mrmoore1970 March 13, 2010 at 4:35 am

ronniethecrazyone:

Yeah, Sarah Douglas as Ursa was hot! She would’ve been a hot item for the Superman lineup!

firestorm63a March 13, 2010 at 4:47 am

You have to admit though, it’s a good likeness of Marlon Brando.

ronniethecrazyone March 13, 2010 at 4:56 am

“Yes” I would hav’t to agree. Especially” One of Sarah Douglas as Ursa! Yeah” lol “Hot!”

mrmoore1970 March 13, 2010 at 5:02 am

LOL! Why in the world would they make a Jor-El action figure when he’s supposed to be dead. Is Jor-El supposed to come back to life to help his son fight crime or something?! Mego Toys should’ve made a “projector” that flashes Jor-El’s image and playback recordings to Superman because that’s all he does. They could’ve at least added the rest of the Phantom Zone, Ursa and Non. For this lineup, Mego should’ve added better characters, but it was fun to have them back then.

mrmoore1970 March 13, 2010 at 5:05 am

Awesome! I remember this commercial fondly as a kid! Although I thought it was kinda weird that Mego Toys gave other toys I had such as Batman, Robin, Captain America and several other heroes “fly-away action” when they didn’t fly. Superman was the only one who truly needed it, although I always wanted Batman to fly! LOL! Thanks for the memories!

The voiceover in this ad sounds like it was pitch-tuned down to make it sound even more manly. Weird.

surlylicious March 13, 2010 at 6:19 am

these are the dolls that make you stand on top of your friends.

fiwaszewski March 13, 2010 at 7:18 am

Man, I wish I still had my Mego dolls.. They are worth a pretty penny in todays market.

Dirtfire March 13, 2010 at 7:25 am

I had this same Superman once before, I believe. Wonder how much one in almost-new condition would be worth today.

ReverendSyn March 13, 2010 at 7:27 am

That sounds about right. What the heck caused all that? I had the 12″ Buck Rogers his spandex pants never DID stay on all that well.

Man, look at those late 70’s hairdos. It was truly the decade that taste forgot.

At least MEGO had some great stuff.

immortalcelsius March 13, 2010 at 7:52 am

He is MINT and perfect. I also have 2 Wonder Woman figures 12 inch that are mint and 2 that have white/green faces.
